More on Pacejet Auto Packing

One of Pacejet’s modules is Auto Packing, which is an added feature to the platform that many customers find useful. This can be implemented to help automate the creation of packages during the freight quoting process. Want to learn more about Pacejet's automatic packaging solutions?

Why you’d want to use Auto Packing

Many businesses want to commit to a shipping charge at the time they take an order from their customer, either through their e-commerce site or their ERP business system.

Carriers require shipment packaging information; such as the number of boxes, dimensions, and weight in order to provide a freight quote. At the time of shipment, the packages used will be entered into the package Information section within Pacejet. However, at the time of order, the shipment packaging needs to be predicted in order to obtain a freight quote.

Pacejet’s Auto Packing software is intended to translate quantities of items on an order into shipment packages that include weights and dimensions. This is done solely for the purpose of obtaining a reasonably accurate freight quote so that the business can commit to a shipping charge with their customer. (The Auto Packing software is not intended to be a packing instruction to be followed by warehouse personnel in the actual packaging of the shipment.)

Here’s how it works

Pacejet’s Auto Packing software is designed to accommodate both parcel and freight shipments. Therefore, the process starts by determining the total weight of the order. (This is compared to a Parcel Cut Off Weight, which is configurable by Pacejet.)

If the total order weight is less than the Parcel Cut Off Weight, the items of the order will be packed into boxes by comparing the dimensions on the item, and the cumulative weight of the items, to the dimensions and maximum weight defined on the container set up within the Pacejet shipping portal.

If the total order weight is more than the Parcel Cut Off Weight, the items of the order will be palletized for shipment. This is done by comparing the dimensions and weight of the items to the dimensions and the maximum weight of the pallet setup within the Pacejet shipping portal.
